Oeuvre: Deyvid, the microlot from Brazil

Oeuvre: Deyvid, the microlot from Brazil

Some coffees arrive with a story already woven into every bean. Oeuvre is one of them — a microlot from the Cerrado Mineiro region of Brazil, produced by someone whose life has been shaped by coffee since childhood: Deyvid Leandro of Esperança Farm.

This lot stood out to us instantly: bright and floral, with a gentle cane-sugar sweetness, soft honey, and a crisp citric finish. Elegant yet approachable. Exceptional yet comforting. A coffee that feels like the culmination of someone’s life’s work — which is exactly why we named it Oeuvre.

The Farmer: Continuing a Legacy

Esperança Farm has been part of the Cerrado Mineiro landscape since the 1990s, when it was acquired by José Maria and his brother. Over time, the farm grew into a cornerstone of coffee cultivation in the region.

Deyvid is José Maria’s grandson — but more importantly, he’s someone who has walked every inch of this journey.
He started working alongside his grandfather at just 10 years old, beginning in the fields and patios before moving into the warehouse, learning to taste and cup coffee with intention.

His curiosity and ambition took him across continents, including a chapter in Canada where he learned about consumer palates and the growing world of specialty coffee. When he returned to Brazil, it was with a renewed purpose: to elevate the coffee his family had always grown.

Today, Deyvid leads Esperança Farm with a focus on quality, innovation, and transparency. His dedication has earned him two Cup of Excellence Brazil wins — one in 2021, and another in 2024 alongside the Barbosa family — placing him among the rare few producers to have won the COE more than once.

The Region: Cerrado Mineiro, Minas Gerais

Cerrado Mineiro is one of Brazil’s most exciting and fast-growing specialty regions. With its tropical savanna climate and predictably distinct wet and dry seasons, it offers ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality Arabica.

At around 1200 masl, the cherries from Esperança Farm develop natural sweetness, balanced acidity, and clarity — characteristics that define many coffees from Cerrado. The region has become known for producing consistent, clean, and expressive coffees that shine in both single-origin brews and competition lots.

The Process: Precision Meets Tradition

This microlot is a natural-processed Catuai 99, where the cherries are carefully dried on patios under controlled conditions. Natural processing in Cerrado is a true skill, requiring attention to weather patterns, airflow, and timing — all elements Deyvid has mastered through years of hands-on experience.

The result is a cup that carries both the terroir of Cerrado and the craft of Esperança Farm: a refined sweetness, gentle florals, and a crisp citric edge that keeps each sip lively.

Why We Chose the Name Oeuvre

An oeuvre is a body of work that represents an artist's life — the collection of everything they’ve poured themselves into.

This microlot felt exactly that way.

It reflects Deyvid’s lifelong relationship with coffee: the early mornings on the farm, the years spent learning to cup, the experience gained abroad, the competitions, the experiments, the passion for quality.
Every step of his journey is present in this cup.

And for us at Poets & Prose, where every coffee tells a story, Oeuvre felt like the right way to honour the labour, legacy, and artistry behind this lot.
