The Story of Proem: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Banko (Coming soon!)

Some coffees feel like an opening line — setting the stage for something remarkable. That’s why we call our new Ethiopian release Proem.

This coffee comes from Banko Chelchele in Gedeb, Yirgacheffe, one of Ethiopia’s most iconic coffee-growing regions. At elevations ranging from 1,950 to 2,160 meters, more than 500 smallholder farmers cultivate heirloom varietals on small plots of land. Each harvest is brought to Tracon’s washing station, where meticulous washed processing brings out the clarity, vibrancy, and floral complexity that Yirgacheffe coffees are famous for.

But what makes this coffee truly special is the people behind it. The exporting is led by Danya and her mother, Aisha, two inspiring women who are working to strengthen the visibility of farmers in Ethiopia’s coffee supply chain. They are building new pathways for producers to connect directly with roasters around the world, ensuring that recognition and fair value flow back to the farming communities who make coffees like this possible.

The result is a coffee with a cup score of 87 that sings with jasmine, green tea, blueberries, and blackberries, finishing with silky dark chocolate notes. Its bright acidity, tea-like body, and clean floral aftertaste reflect not only the terroir of Yirgacheffe but also the care of the people who bring it to life.

Proem is more than a coffee — it’s a story of tradition, resilience, and new beginnings for Ethiopian farmers.

We will be roasting it soon by Septemer-end and would love to know how you brew it and what flavors you taste . Let us know in the comments!
