Discover the Rich Flavours of Haitian Coffee: A Spotlight on Noula
Share
Haiti's rich history and fertile lands have long been the foundation of its exceptional coffee. A shining example of this heritage is this Haitian beans, cultivated by the APCAB Cooperative in the Kolen region. These beans offer a unique taste experience that connects consumers to Haiti's vibrant culture and traditions.
The word "nOula" carries deep meaning in Haitian Creole. It symbolises connection and community—both central themes in the cooperative’s mission. "Nou" translates to "we" in Haitian Creole, reflecting the cooperative’s spirit of collective effort and shared success.
A Legacy of Quality: APCAB Cooperative
The APCAB Coop (Association des Planteurs de Café de l'arrondissement de Belle-Anse) stands as a testament to Haiti's dedication to sustainable and ethical coffee production. Situated in the Kolen region, this cooperative of 809 members focuses on empowering local farmers through fair wages and community development. Their commitment ensures that each bean not only meets high-quality standards but also supports the livelihoods of Haitian coffee growers.
Cultivation at Its Finest
Grown at an elevation of 1,400 meters, the beans thrive in Haiti's nutrient-rich volcanic soils. The region's consistent tropical climate, optimal rainfall, and natural shade from indigenous vegetation contribute to the beans' distinctive flavour. This environment, coupled with traditional cultivation methods influenced by Ethiopian coffee heritage, results in a refined and rich taste profile.
Supporting Haitian Communities Through Coffee
Purchasing Noula beans goes beyond savouring exceptional coffee; it's an investment in Haiti's future. Collaborations between JA Coffee (importer), Kok Ki Chante (local nonprofit), and APCAB COOP ensure that every purchase supports Haitian coffee growers with fair wages and enhances community well-being.
