Introducing Reverie: A Taste of Guatemalan Innovation and Sustainability
Share
At Poets & Prose Coffee, we take pride in sourcing coffee from farms that go beyond the cup, embodying dedication to sustainability, innovation, and tradition. Our new Guatemalan medium roast, Reverie, is no exception. This coffee not only delivers a rich, nuanced flavor profile but also carries the story of Finca Esperanza—a woman-led, environmentally conscious farm in the heart of Guatemala.
The Story Behind Finca Esperanza
Nestled near the Atitlán region at over 1,400 meters above sea level, Finca Esperanza stands as a beacon of sustainable coffee farming. This 225-acre farm, led by Ana Vizcaino, balances cultivation with conservation. Only 120 acres are dedicated to coffee, while the remaining land is preserved as a natural reserve known as La Morenita.
Ana’s journey with Finca Esperanza began in 2009, inheriting a farm that once followed conventional farming practices reliant on pesticides and chemicals. Inspired by her great-grandmother’s pioneering spirit and her own vision for a sustainable future, Ana and her team spent six years transforming the farm into a certified organic operation. Today, the farm boasts innovative solutions like its own dry mill, solar drying beds, and eco-friendly practices that nurture the soil and protect local water sources.
The Reverie Experience

The Reverie coffee you enjoy comes from the highest-altitude section of Finca Esperanza, where the Catuai and Caturra varietals thrive in rich volcanic soil. These cherries undergo a meticulous washed process, including a 36-hour fermentation with ROSE yeast, which enhances the coffee’s unique flavor characteristics. The beans are then dried on raised African beds for up to 21 days, ensuring a clean and complex profile.
Flavor Notes to Savor
With every sip of Reverie, you'll uncover notes of citrus, soft florals, and a balanced sweetness—a testament to the careful cultivation and processing at Finca Esperanza. Whether you’re brewing it as a pour-over, French press, or espresso, this coffee promises a moment of pure indulgence and connection to its roots.
More Than Just Coffee
Ana Vizcaino’s commitment extends beyond exceptional coffee. Visitors to Finca Esperanza are welcomed into a world of ingenuity, from the innovative farming solutions to the “geese palace” that houses the farm’s lively geese and ducks. Every corner of this farm tells a story of harmony between people, the land, and its inhabitants.

Reverie isn’t just coffee; it’s a journey to the hills of Guatemala, a celebration of tradition and progress, and a testament to what’s possible when innovation meets respect for nature.
